Organize Early To Avoid Holiday Stress: Fun Tips From The MediLodge Whole Person Wellness Program

This month The MediLodge Whole Person Wellness Program looks to take the STRESS out of the Holidays with some organizational tips to help you confidently prepare for the season.

Organize A Worksheet Exclusively For Holiday Expenses

Write down every holiday expense that you are likely to incur and list a reasonable amount of money next to each item.  Add it up and compare it to the actual budget you have.  If you are over budget, now is the time to brainstorm some ways to spoil the people you love without digging yourself into a hole.

Sell Your Clutter And Save The Proceeds For Holiday Expenditures

We all have items that are perfectly useful but that we no longer need, use or want.  This month, sell those items on eBay or Craigslist and allocate the additional income to your holiday budget.

Go On A Financial Diet This Month

Give up on luxuries that you enjoy on a regular basis, like going to the movies or eating out.  Every little bit counts; cutting out a $3-a-day latte habit for example, can yield big dividends over the next few weeks.

Stock Up On Gifts Early

Whenever you come across some item that is perfect for one of the people on your list and reasonably priced, pick it up and store it carefully.

Arrange Gift Swaps

If you have a big family or circle of friends, buying each person a thoughtful and useful gift is a mental and financial nightmare. Suggest a gift swap.  Everyone enjoys getting one nice gift compared to giving and getting lots of junk.

Organize Gift Cards, Loyalty Cards And Points Before You Shop

Set aside 20 minutes on one Saturday to empty all the wallets and handbags you own and go through the drawers in the house and organize any gift cards or loyalty cards and put together a plan to use them.

Put Boundaries On Holiday Décor

Even though it is tempting, there is absolutely no need to go overboard in decorating the house. High-impact spots for decorations are the front door and porch, living/family room and powder room.

The goal of the MediLodge Whole Person Wellness Program is to recognize the unique individuality of everyone.  This approach to wellness is an active process in which everyone is encouraged to make choices towards personal growth in seven dimensions of wellness: physical, social, emotional, spiritual, intellectual, occupational/vocational and financial.  Most workplace wellness programs focus entirely on physical health.  With a whole person wellness approach, the physical needs will not be downplayed, but will be held in equal importance as the dimensions that involve mind and spirit.  In whole person wellness a high priority is placed on prevention, individual involvement and the responsibility we each have for achieving optimal wellness of body, mind and spirit.
